Role Summary
The architecture team is here to ensure the wejo platform continues to grow in a scalable manner, working with the business to understand their needs and to ensure those needs transition to working software in the platform. wejo employs a range of “big data” technologies (streaming and batch) and architects are expected to be hands-on experts in their subject areas.
The role of the Solution Architect is to work within the architecture team to ensure the Wejo platform continues to grow in a scalable manner.
The Solutions Architect will work with the business to understand their needs and to ensure those needs transition to working software in the platform. Wejo employ a range of “big data” technologies (streaming and batch) and architects are expected to be hands experts in their subject areas.
Key Responsibilities – what I do mostly
- Engineering the Company data platforms for scale, performance, reliability and security.
- Work with other members of the architecture team to design and build big data capabilities.
- Comfortable with client facing work including some international travel.
- Work with the delivery teams to design and implement data processing pipelines, associated data and database structures and fine tune performance to meet those requirements.
- Work with Infrastructure and DevOps teams to release and maintain live products.
- Participate in establishing processes and best practices around development standards.
- Own the NFRs for a given product area.
- Own the architecture roadmap for a given product area.
- Work with the rest of the team to govern architecture across the organisation.
- Ensuring a professional image of the company and themselves is presented at all times

Essential Skills / Knowledge & Experience – what I need to do the job
- Experience of a range of technologies and technology patterns at scale
- Good communication skills
- Recent hands on development experience
- Experience of designing distributed systems deployed to cloud computing environments
- Experience of open source technologies for big data processing such as Apache Spark, Hadoop and Kafka.
Desirable – What can help me succeed
- Experience of designing distributed systems deployed to cloud computing environments
- Experience of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS or Azure
- Experience of open source technologies for big data processing such as Apache Spark, Kafka and Kafka Streams.
- Experience in programming in any of the following: Java, Scala or Python.
- Experience with configuration management process.
- Experience working with an Agile Tracking Tool (e.g. Jira, Rally).
- Experience managing data ingestion and processing operations
- Background in data engineering and associated software development life cycles & service delivery
