Role Summary
Reporting to the Chair of the Audit Committee of the Wejo Ltd Board of Directors with a functional line into the SVP, Risk and Compliance, the Head of Assurance will be responsible for overseeing the Internal Assurance (Audit) activities within Wejo.
The Head of Internal Assurance will have a great opportunity to positively impact the way the Internal Assurance Group does business. This position will oversee the Assurance function in its performance of detailed evaluations of Wejo controls and processes including technology controls, computer information systems implementation, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, operational structures and ad hoc requests. This position will have primary responsibility to develop and maintain audit processes and software and will also play a supporting role in Wejo risk management activities.
The Head of Internal Assurance will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and execute the Assurance Department’s strategies and objectives
- Interact regularly with Wejo leadership in an agile environment, on many types of issues
- Build strong relationships across the company, grow the team, and provide the internal assurance services that support Wejo’s business strategies and objectives
Key Responsibilities – what I do mostly
- Manage the company assurance processes
- Proactively keep informed of emerging trends, developments and best practices affecting the assurance practice and keep team updated
- Drive audit plan management, adjustments and automation
- Keep the Audit Committee Chair informed of progress and issues
- Conduct audits alongside direct reports
- Develop, counsel and train team members to improve skills and provide opportunity for advancement
- Develop, formalize and maintain assurance policies, practices and standards that align with the needs of the company
- Deliver assurance activity related to certifications including ISO27001 and TISAX including assurance activity planning
- Support the SVP, Risk and Compliance with Risk Management activities from time to time
- Present audit finding reports to senior management, the Wejo internal Risk Committee, and the Wejo Audit Committee
- Review working papers to ensure that adequate documentation exists to support the completed audit and conclusions under a risk-based framework
- Oversee the follow up on audit findings to ensure that management has taken corrective action(s) in keeping with a risk-based approach
- Manage Assurance resources in an efficient and effective manner
Other Responsibilities – what I will be doing sometimes
- Support the SVP, Risk and Compliance with ad-hoc activities
- Present at governance forums, represent Assurance on working groups
- Support the ISO27001 Surveillance audit activities and other relevant certifications, should Wejo obtain them
Essential Skills / Knowledge & Experience – what I need to do the job
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Business-related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Practical Internal or External Assurance experience; knowledge of internal audit practices, procedures and principles
- Familiarity and experience conducting reviews related to ISO 27001 and other ISO standards
- Practical knowledge of SOX and the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework
- Knowledge and experience in developing risk-based audit methodologies, risk assessments, annual planning, risk and control, and quality assurance practices
- Skillful in prioritization of evolving business needs, delegating as appropriate, and keeping management and the Wejo Board apprised of updates to the audit plans
- A prerequisite for everyone working in Wejo is a high level of personal resilience and the ability to manage changing priorities and complexity well
Relevant certifications (e.g., Cert Information Systems Auditor (CISA), OR Cert Internal Auditor (CIA), or CISSP) desirable
