Role Summary
Wejo’s Architecture Team works with stakeholders across the business to help turn our strategic plans into scalable, high-performing designs; ultimately delivered by our phenomenal Engineering, Data Analytics and Data Science functions. Our core goal is to continually improve our technology landscape to give us a competitive advantage.
Our Solution Architects each own part of our platform architecture. They become true domain experts and principal design authorities, engaging with multiple business functions to help guide a program of work from inception to delivery.

Essential Skills / Knowledge & Experience – what I need to do the job
- Practical experience of a range of data technologies and technology patterns, implemented at scale
- Experience of designing distributed systems deployed to cloud computing environments
- Experience of open-source technologies for big data processing such as Apache Spark, Hadoop and Kafka
- Experience using agile frameworks to help streamline delivery
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS or Azure
Key Responsibilities – what I do mostly
- Engineer our data platforms and products for scale, performance, reliability and security
- Work with other architects to design and build Big Data capabilities and help govern architecture across the organisation
- Work with delivery teams to design and implement data processing pipelines, associated data and database structures and fine tune performance to meet those requirements.
- Work with Infrastructure and DevOps teams to release and maintain live products
- Participate in establishing architectural processes, standards and best practices
- Pave architecture runways for your solutions and own their NFRs
- Ensure a professional image of the company and themselves is presented at all times

- Using my expertise and knowledge to help in areas of the business that need my support
- Researching and learning to help myself and Wejo excel
- Participating in Wejo’s social scene
Desirable – What can help me succeed
- Experience of designing distributed systems deployed to cloud computing environments
- Experience programming in Java, Scala or Python
- Experience with configuration management processes
- Experience working with an Agile Task Management tool (e.g. Jira, Monday)
- Experience managing data ingestion and processing operations
- Background in data engineering
- Recent hands-on development experience
