Role Summary
The role of the Head of Product Engineering is to lead the Product Engineering function within Wejo, focused on building dynamic, high performance teams with the right blend of skills and experience to deliver new products and features to support Wejo growth across several markets.
Accountable for the function's delivery of high-quality software in a predictable manner. Working with stakeholders both internal and external to deliver against Wejo’s strategic and tactical goals.
Key Responsibilities – what I do mostly
- Management of team capacity to meet business demand.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence including personal behaviours and knowledge.
- Lead the engineering teams to develop and deliver new products and features for Wejo streaming, batch, API and web based products
- Ensuring internal and external communications are clear and relevant.
- Own development approaches working with architecture to determine technology choices & methodologies
- Work with key stakeholders (including Product and Commercial) to understand strategic goals and delivery priorities.
- Career development of staff within the team including but not limited to objectives, one to ones, training and mentoring.
- Work with the Head of Data Platform to agree the platform roadmap.
- Own and implement the SDLC.
- Encourage and inspire the team to continually improve.
- Foster a culture of openness and mutual success.
- Ensure failures and mistakes are treated as a learning opportunity.
- Ensuring a professional image of the company and themselves is presented at all times.
Other Responsibilities – what I will be doing sometimes
- Using my expertise and knowledge to help in areas of the business that need support to get the job done, whatever that might be.
- Feed into strategic planning cycle to agree capacity for the coming years
- C-suite presentations and communications
- Out of hours escalation
- Customer facing consultancy
- Work with staff augmentation or outsourcing partners
Essential Skills / Knowledge & Experience – what I need to do the job
- Strong technology background at a senior level, especially in big data, streaming and cloud technologies (for example Spark, Scala, kafka, HDFS, AWS/Azure)
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Extensive experience of working in Agile and agile environments
